We have installed a plugin that allows you to resize images on the fly as well as a host of other features when inserting images into your posts.
To be able to take advantage of this we need to use the Add Media button above the format buttons:

If your post is large, please consider using the More button which is between the Insert image and Toggle Spellchecker buttons.

What this does is insert a break point into your post and anything after it can be read off the Home page and in the actual post page.
It inserts the text: “Continue reading this post…”  [...]
