I have the honor/honour to post the first blog entry on our new XyUG website.
Don’t really know why the board decided to put the burden on my shoulders, but I suspect that somebody researched the archives on the XyUG listserv and found that I either had the most entries or either the longest entry (would not be surprised if it would have been both).
I really do hope that this other channel of communication will be as succesfull as our listserv mailing list. But just as the listserv, we will need your help. We will need many authors who step forward and help us turn this blog into a valuable asset. You don’t have to be a regular contributor, but if you feel you have something to share with the community, apply to become an author member of the XyUG blog. Behind the scenes we are running Word Press and the Word Press interface makes it a breeze to enter and update your blog entries.
So what about the listserv?
Well the listserv will continue to do what it has been doing for the past couple of years. Whenever you have a question and you are looking for a quick answer, just put it on the listserv. It is and will remain the best way to tap into decades of experience with the XyEnterprise product line.
Then why this new blog site?
The listserv is nice for fast and short stuff and question and answer style sessions. It is not very good for more in-depth stories. I (and hopefully many others) always felt that some questions deserve a better and longer answer. As you all know our beloved XyEnterprise system can get very complicated at times and although you can give people the quick answer, like push this button and turn that red knob 20 degrees to the left, it sticks better if one can share background information on why you have to turn the red knob and not the green one. It might be also helpfull to explain why you have to turn it to the left and not to the right.
Well now with our blog site, we now have an excellent channel to share all that information as well.
So don’t hestitate and request your login now, and post your first comment
(you’ll need your contributor login in order to read the member posts).
Your role will initially be set to contributor
If you feel that you have more to say, send a request to Bob and ask him to change your role to author. This will give you the opportunity to post your own blog entries.

Thanks! I hope it’s okay if it is something other than a mugshot of me. I have a favorite Cartier-Bresson photograph that looks just like me spiritually.

So it might take a little while before things appear on the site.
So what’s in the right hand of the boy?
My guess is a bottle of wine…
(aha hence the spiritual reference)
Yes, two bottles of wine, from a nearby cooperative, I’m guessing. Although this is a city scene, circa 1954, Rue Mouffetard in Paris.

Ah, great moments in American politics. There was a fun feature in the current issue of Spin magazine about Music and Politics. Elvis and the Trickster were in the top five. IIRC, Elvis present the president with a very nice Colt .45 pistol at this meeting.
