With the release of the latest version (2.8) of Wordpress in June, we thought it about time to upgrade our site to 2.71. This keeps us fairly up to date while still ensuring the plugins we utilise continue to work.
The process involved backing up the database, uploading all of the data files and PHP scripts, converting the database to the new version and then updating and reactivating all of the plugins.
Thankfully this has now been completed and so far everything is looking ok. There are some layout issues that need addressing but these are minor CSS hacks. Best of all I have managed to retain most of my hair and not chewed my nails to the quick.
Hopefully you will not notice anything different until logging in to the dashboard. Here the layout has been vastly improved with the menu moved vertically down the left hand side and made expandable. Writing, editing and managing the blog is now much easier.
If you notice anything awry please post a comment and I will look into it.

When clicking on the “Log Out” link under Control Panel in the left hand menu it errors.
Logging out from within the Dashboard works fine.
